Tech Hub Visits Vandenberg SFB with GUSD Students

On November 22, 2022, Tech Hub, a cost-free STEAM education program, visited Vandenberg Space Force Base (SFB) with students from Glendale Unified School District (GUSD) to participate in the 532nd Missile Testing Simulation. The simulation provided students with hands-on experience in electronic principles, mechanical principles, and heating/cooling principles, as well as exposure to the exciting world of aerospace.

The day began with a briefing on the AeroSpace industry and a presentation on the importance of missile testing. Students were then introduced to the Spacelift Telemetry Acquisition and Reporting System (STARS), which tracks and monitors missile launches. They were given a tour of the Remote Launch Control Center and learned about the functions of each console position, including the Launch GO Poll.

Next, the students were given positions and badges based on subsystem, and a script was distributed. They practiced reporting to each other, ensuring that everyone was comfortable with their roles. Finally, a mock SpaceX Day of Launch Simulation was conducted with all students monitoring the launch countdown.

The experience was not only educational but also inspiring for the students. They were able to see firsthand the exciting career opportunities available in aerospace and related industries. Many of the students expressed interest in pursuing careers in STEM fields, and the experience solidified their commitment to their education.

Tech Hub's visit to Vandenberg SFB demonstrates the importance of exposing students to STEAM education and providing hands-on experience in real-world applications. By providing access to cutting-edge technology and exposure to exciting industries, Tech Hub is preparing the next generation of leaders to navigate the next frontier and succeed in the 21st century.
